We are throwing Advanced Ruby with Pragmatic Dave Thomas into the mix. Your choice.
Incidentally, we are not going to be precious about your ticket choices. If you change your mind about your tutorial, let us know.

In other news, here is a word from our new Gold Sponsor, Bytemark.

Their hosting starts at only £15 per month and runs to multi-site managed setups for customers with the fussiest demands of reliability and failover.

If you were planning to come to the conference for just the Friday and Saturday, then you’re doing it wrong: you should be here on Thursday 28 June too. We’re excited to announce the first event of the Thursday Charity Day: a Groupon Hackon Day.
The talented Groupon Engineering Team will be leading one of their famous Hackon Days, as seen at Ruby Mid West. Stay tuned for further details.
But that’s not all - we have some alternative workshops in the pipleline. And it is for a good cause: all money donated will go the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland.
2012-01-29 : Sold out
The main batch of tickets have sold out, but do not despair: we will release another (small) batch of tickets once the CFP is closed and the schedule has been prepared.
Another way to guarantee a place at this year’s Scottish Ruby Conference is to have a talk accepted. Our Call for Proposals is open, so start preparing your submissions here.
2012-01-19 19:00 : CFP open
The CFP is open until 23:59 GMT on March 8th 2012. You can submit here.
We are looking for presentations on a range of topics that would be of interest to Rubyists. While largely Ruby related, we have previously had presentations on topics ranging form Arduino Robot Submarines to career development.
Sessions should be a maximum of 45 minutes long, including Q&A. Finishing early is absolutely fine, but you will not be allowed to over-run. Budget for 30 minutes speaking and up to 15 minutes of discussion.
2012-01-19 01:00 : Videos
What with all the excitement of the new site, we forgot to put up a link to the previous year’s videos. You can find links in the about page.
2011-12-27 : Oh hai Brightbox
Happy that bit between Christmas and Hogmany everyone. Sales are ticking along: at the time of posting we have 38 standard tickets left. The Call For (session) Proposals will be opening early in the new year. Watch out for details.
Thanks again to Brightbox for providing website hosting again. This year we are on their new Cloud Service.
2011-11-23 15:00 : Registration is open
Registration is open. Click on tickets in the menu to register, or just click here. As mentioned earlier, the early-bird tickets are bit cheaper than the standard, so buy early for the best bargains.
- Very Early bird tickets will cost £180
- Early bird tickets will cost £205
- Standard tickets will cost £245
We have early-bird pricing because as the conference approaches we have bills to pay, and having cash upfront becomes very useful.
Buy tickets here.
2011-11-23 : Terms and conditions
By popular demand here are our rough ticket terms and conditions:-
Transferability
We do not mind at all if you can not make the event and transfer your ticket to someone else. Do tell us, though (conference [at] scottishrubyconference.com).
It is normal to accept what you paid for the ticket in exchange, but that is between you. The google group is a good place to arrange these exchanges.
Refunds
We do not refund tickets as a matter of course. If you are really stuck, can’t sell the ticket, and it still a while until the conference then get in touch and we will see what we can do.
Maximum tickets per order
The maximum tickets per order on the Early Bird family of tickets is four.
Speakers
Speakers don’t pay. If you have bought a ticket and are then chosen to speak then you get refunded.
2011-11-16 11:50 : Registration (finally)
Registation for the 2012 conference will open on Wednesday 23 November at 15:00 GMT. The early-bird tickets are bit cheaper than the standard, so buy early for the best bargains.
- Very Early bird tickets will cost £180
- Early bird tickets will cost £205
- Standard tickets will cost £245
Ticket price includes lunch, snacks and drinks, breakfast on the Saturday, and entry to our AWESOME after-conference party on the Saturday. Once more the party, amongst other things, will feature the live music of Zoe Keating
The Call for Proposals will open during the next couple of weeks. (Ok that’s the opposite order of events that we promised - our bad.) If you buy a ticket now, and you are accepted as a speaker then we will refund your ticket.
We will be running some kind of charity event on Thursday 28 June. Stay tuned for details.
2011-10-12 : Coming Soon - CFP and Registration
We have been hinting about it for a while, but CFP and registation is just around the corner. In the next couple of weeks, we will be all set to receive the proposals for sessions and shortly afterwards we will open ticket sales.
Stay tuned.
2011-10-12 : New Site
Welcome to the new Scottish Ruby Conference site launched for the 2012 conference. Take a look around. Over the next few weeks we will bet tweaking the content, adding more pages, and design.
As usual the conference will be held over a Friday and Saturday in Edinburgh, at The Royal College of Physicians and there will be a charity event the the previous day. This year, though, we will be in June (29,30) and we have three, count them, three keynotes lined up:
- Dave Thomas, aka Pragmatic Dave, The Pragmatic Programmer
- Aaron Patterson, aka Tender Love, the only person on both Ruby and Rails core team, prolific open-source contributer, and fashion guru.
- Mike Lee, aka The World’s Toughest Programmer, citizen of Appsterdam
